Information for Injured Workers
If a worker sustains an injury at work and lodges a claim for compensation with the employer, the claim will need to be determined. The Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act (SA),1986 establishes that a disability is compensable if it arises from employment as per the grounds of Section 30 of the Act. Therefore, if a worker sustains a work-related compensable disability resulting in either medical treatment and/or time off work, reasonable costs will be paid for by the employer and rehabilitation assistance will be provided to assist the worker to make a safe, early and sustainable return to work.
A worker under the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act (SA),1986 Act, has rights and responsibilities, as does the employer. Where a worker requires rehabilitation assistance to return to work, either a rehabilitation programme or a rehabilitation and return to work plan will be established by the rehabilitation coordinator (or an approved external rehabilitation provider) in consultation with the worker, manager/supervisor and treating medical practitioner.
